Gordon H. Empey originally joined the firm in 2003, following the merger with Venture Law Group. In 2004, Mr. Empey became Vice President & General Counsel at his client Radiant Research. After helping Radiant Research through a period of growth and the sale of its businesses to Covance and Swiss Biosciences, Mr. Empey rejoined the firm in 2008 as Special Counsel. Mr. Empey’s practice focuses on emerging technology, life sciences, healthcare and clean technology companies and venture capital firms.
Mr. Empey represents clients in a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, clinical trial agreements, technology licensing transactions, corporate partnerships, commercial agreements and general corporate matters. He has worked with a wide variety of clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare services, medical device, clean technology, software, wireless and telecommunications industries.
Mr. Empey has represented such companies as Radiant Research, Blue Heron Biotechnology, Illumigen Bioscience, Koronis Pharmaceuticals, Xcyte Therapies, EKOS, MedManage, Onvia, Pointshare, Silvaris, TeamOn Systems, Dexterra, Finsphere, PowerTech, Sabi, AirFrame and YottaYotta. Mr. Empey has also represented such venture capital firms as ABS Capital Partners, Arch Venture Partners, Frazier Healthcare, Frazier Technology and Ignition Partners.
From 2004 to 2007, Mr. Empey served as Vice President & General Counsel of Radiant Research. While at Radiant Research, Mr. Empey managed legal affairs for the clinical research company, including mergers and acquisitions, budgets and contracts, litigation, risk management and real estate.
Prior to joining Heller Ehrman in 2003, Mr. Empey was a Senior Attorney at Venture Law Group. Prior to joining Venture Law Group, he served as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1994 to 1998.
